This device was used to connect between a new television set that has no analog audio output. The optical output of the TV set is connected to this device and then this device is connected to an existing audio system. Thus far, it is working very well

with this adapter I was able to connect my Apple TV 3rd generation optical audio out to an older Yamaha analog stereo receiver, while connecting the video to my LED TV via hdmi.

At first the converter did nothing and I thought it was faulty. I checked the digital audio output from my TV and changed it to PCM and the converter started working immediately. The included instructions are fair, but not great.
